The junior runners are the future of the club, which is great because some of us, personally speaking, are creaking like old wooden floorboards. This award goes to a young athlete who has shown exceptional commitment, enthusiasm, and improvement throughout the season. Whether at training, races, or just running circles around the adults, this individual has truly stood out. Joey, we can’t wait to see where your running journey takes you! Just don’t start beating us in races too soon—some of us are fragile.
The most improved male runner has had a fantastic year of progress—pushing boundaries, achieving personal bests, and making the rest of us wonder if he’s secretly being coached by Kipchoge.
The most improved female runner has had an outstanding season of dedication—showing determination, grit, and possibly some magical powers to improve so much. Plis there have been unconfirmed rumours that she was actually seen smiling whilst running.
Not all runs go smoothly. Sometimes, gravity wins. This award goes to someone who has provided us with a moment of spectacular, slow-motion, highlight-reel-worthy falling.
While we don’t condone injuries, we do appreciate good entertainment so for his impressive double somersault and triple pike dive at the GLCL XC in Chepstow.
This award recognizes someone who embodies the spirit of our club— encouraging others, showing up rain or shine, and always bringing positivity (even on those rainy winter runs when we all regret our life choices).

Mike was a great advocate for helping people starting out on their running journey, this award in his memory is to recognise someone who has volunteered and helped the club at First Steps, and events that we put on. We would be nothing without our volunteers. They give up their time, keep us organized, and make sure we don’t all run off in the wrong direction. Described as “quiet, unassuming, and a bit of a shrinking violet.” (At least that’s what ChatGPT thinks. Clearly, AI hasn’t met Mandy.
Being a runner is all about time management—getting to the start line on time is key. For driving straight through the Thornbury 10K start line, making 100s of runners step aside like Moses parting the Red Sea—Sammi, your commitment to making an entrance is truly unmatched.

Normally, fun awards are nominated by one or two members. This one was nominated by… quite a few. Mandy, your enthusiasm is unmatched, but ear defenders may now be mandatory for club events.
the Chairs award, this is the one award whereas chair I get to choose the recipient. What I look for is someone who is inspirational, someone who upholds the club values, someone who turns up to events and is always upbeat about their running. So, this year’s winner often wins their age category, turns up to events whatever the weather, always has words of encouragement for others and just always seem to be happy just running.
