Sprint Relay

4 x 2 Mile relay on car free paths

First Run in 2019 this race became an instant hit. Teams of four run one lap of the 2 mile course each.  

Categories

Senior: 

Male (combined age up to159), 

Female (combined age up to139) 

Mixed (2 male, 2 female combined age up to149), 

Veteran: 

Male (combined age minimum 160), 

Female  (combined age minimum 140) 

Mixed (2 male, 2 female).

There is limited parking on site, alternative parking is available at Cwmbran Station and Public Car Parks in the town.

Event Information

The Olive Tree, Cwmbran, NP44 2JJ


We look forward to seeing you all at our relay event for 2025. Please could you share the following information with your team(s) prior to the event.


Parking


1. Please try to car share wherever possible, as there is limited parking.

2. There is parking outside the Olive Tree which you will be directed to by marshals.

N.B. There will be no entry or exit to the car park once the race is in progress.

3. Overflow parking can be found at Cwmbran Train Station (2 min walk) or free car parks within Cwmbran town centre.


Registration


1. HQ will be held in the main room of the Olive Tree from 6pm.

2. Team race numbers can be collected only by Team Managers.

3. There will be limited toilet facilities available at the Olive Tree.

4. Baggage can be left in the Olive Tree during the race, but it will not be supervised; so left at your own risk.


Start/Transition/Finish Area


1. The race will start at 7pm with Runners A starting on mass at the start line.

2. Runners will be directed by marshals into their appropriate holding pen before the race commences. There will also be a small warmup area on the grass allocated.

Please do not attempt to run or obstruct the race/river path during warm up at any point.

3. The incoming runner will pass over the starting line where their finishing time will be recorded. This will also be the start time for the outgoing runners. 

4. Incoming runners must tag the outgoing runner in the transition zone marked by flags (Failure to do so will incur a time penalty) **

5. When running into the finish/transition area, incoming runners must stay to the right and exit the course asap via the finishing funnel on the right, as directed by marshals.

**Please do not stop in the transition zone and keep running into the funnel marked ‘Finish’ until you are clear of the course**.

6. Outgoing runners will join the transition area on the left-hand side. Runners must not cross into the incoming runner’s path and cause obstruction of other. 


Rules


1. Teams of 4 runners. Each team member will be allocated a race no marked with A, B, C or D.

2. Runners must run in the order declared on the entry.

3. Club colours must be worn, where appropriate.

4. Numbers must be worn on the front.

5. Marshalls will call the number of the incoming runner to ensure that the outgoing runner is waiting in the transition area.

6. All other runners must remain in their allocated pen.

7. No headphone are to be worn to allow instructions from the marshals.


Presentations


Will take place in race HQ as soon shortly after the last finisher has finished.

1. Refreshments will be available in the Olive Tree after the race.

2. There will be awards for the following categories:

a. Senior Male (Up to 159 years combined)

b. Senior Female (Up to 139 years)

c. Senior Mixed (Up to 149 years)

d. Vet Male (160+)

e. Vet Female (140+)

f. Vet Mixed (150+)

In addition, there will be cash prizes for breaking the current individual records:

g. Fastest Male record –   9:49

h. Fastest Female record – 11:45

1.96-mile anti-clockwise loop of the park, on flat tarmac.(see map above)
